HENRY QUALTROUGH was born 1864 in Diamond Creek, Vic, Australia, and died 1943. He married EMILY LAVINIA SMITH 1908 in Phillip Island, Vic, Australia, daughter of THOMAS SMITH and CLARA HARDINGHAM. She was born 12 June 1883, and died 30 June 1972.

Child of HENRY QUALTROUGH and EMILY SMITH is:

GLADYS IRENE6 QUALTROUGH, b. 29 November 1906, Victoria, Australia; d. 4 January 1983.

Henry married Emily Smith and they were orchardists at Wattle Glen, their land being 17 acres. Henry was the administrator of Lydia Qualtrough's estate and presumably took over this property on the death of James in 1906 Henry is listed in the Post Office Directories from 1903 to 1909. His Nephew Henry Thomas (Jack), Grandfather of Malcolm Qualtrough, the web-master of this site.worked on the orchard with Henry and Emily for some of his early life.

Emily had a child Gladys when they were married in about 1906 and she was their only child. Emily was born on the 12th June 1883, Henry being 19 years her senior. Henry died in 1943 aged 76 years leaving Emily to carry on the orchard. In 1945 bushfires burnt through the area and the story is that Emily put the horses and other animals in the house and fought the fire saving them.
